InVenture Flashback
The First Competition
The InVenture Prize began in 2009, with eight students or student teams competing in what was dubbed “American Idol for Nerds.” Today, it’s more equivalent to Shark Tank, but it’s still about showcasing innovations from undergraduate students at Georgia Tech. The first competition had a first place team and individual winner. The winning innovation in the team category, Chlorocyte Bioreactor, used emissions from fossil-fuel burning power plants to grow and harvest algae. The individual winning innovation, DialPrice, let users quickly check competitive pricing using any phone.
